Every Lesson Counts Tutoring

Helping to make dreams a reality

Welcome to my 11+ blog

This blog is about the Wirral 11+ exam.

It will give thought to ways of how to study for the exam, what you should expect from tutors and how you can support your child in their preparation.

At ELC we have several ideas of the 'best' ways that we will explore in our blog.

One of the things you will regularly hear us say is 'little and often'. We advocate little bits of homework throughout the week rather than a huge amount on a Sunday.

Why do we do this? Well, we believe that regularly reassessing information in the brain will make it become more 'concrete'. In fact, we are not alone in this and now it seems that scientists have proven that such an approach can make up to a 30% difference in exam results!!

Using strategies such as this will help all ELC students make even stronger progress towards success in the Wirral 11+.

At ELC we have a number of structured learning plans that will help students develop more confidence with their vocabulary and accompanied with our online learning system and free to use library, we regularly see students making rapid progress with the words that they know.

In addition the Wirral CEM 11+ will require numerical ability. This will involve focus on wordy maths problems. This will require a strong grasp of basic maths skills with percentages/fractions/decimals etc as well as the ability to extract the necessary information from each question.

We are confident that our professional and structured lessons offer excellent increases in confidence and overall ability with parents regularly commenting about the progress their child makes once starting at ELC tutoring.

We have to say, the new Wirral CEM 11+ is fantastic! It is enabling us to give so much more back through the tutoring than was possible with the previous 11+. We have watched as students have got to grips with fractions, developed their reading confidence and made significant improvements in school!

It had to happen eventually and we are absolutely delighted that it did. Wirral has finally changed to the Durham CEM exam.

At ELC this allows us to do what we do best! TEACH!!!

It is so refreshing to see students leaving lessons with skills they can actually apply to real life such as fraction/comprehension and problem solving.

Our lessons are now even more packed with activities and challenge for students. All of these are created by current teachers who are reguarly graded as outstanding in terms of their teaching provision.

£32 a week? £32?!?!!? That is genuinely the price being quoted by one tutor on the Wirral at the moment for a place on an 11+ tutoring course. That is an astonishing amount of money....especially considering it is not even a 1:1 rate but for a group of 5+ students. Nothing more to say other than to shake head in absolute disbelief.
